The eclectic décor, including locally inspired artwork, adds a unique and personal touch that makes every visit special.
The menu at Pujo St Cafe is a treasure trove of flavors that excite and comfort in equal measure. Start your meal with standout appetizers like the Oysters Pujo, where pecan and panko-crusted oysters arrive golden and crisp, smothered in a luscious creamed spinach, tasso, and smoked gouda sauce that is decadently rich yet balanced. Or try the Calamari, lightly floured and tossed in a spicy house pepper mix that’s elevated with a dusting of Parmesan—each bite offers a playful texture contrast and a subtle kick of heat. The Hummus provides a fresh and zesty vegetarian option, featuring roasted garlic, red bell pepper, and jalapeño served with warm Greek flatbread.
Salads here reimagine fresh ingredients with flavorful twists: the Hollywood Salad dazzles with roasted tomatoes, spiced pecans, feta crumbles, and dried cranberries atop tender baby greens, creating a sweet-savory harmony. Meanwhile, the Crawfish Spinach and Bacon Salad invites you to enjoy locally sourced crawfish tails, lightly fried to crispy perfection, adding a true taste of Louisiana to your plate.
For mains, Pujo St Cafe truly shines. The Ahi Tuna is pan-seared flawlessly, served over sautéed spinach and seasonal vegetables with wasabi mayo and sriracha that awaken the palate with layers of spice and umami. Seafood lovers will revel in the Grilled Salmon, glazed with a vibrant spicy orange sauce that complements the tender fillet, paired deftly with grilled vegetables and fluffy rice pilaf. If comfort food is calling, the Chicken Tortellini combines tender grilled chicken, smoky bacon, and sautéed mushrooms in a rich white wine sauce, delivering warmth and robust flavor in every forkful.
Brunch at Pujo St Cafe is truly an experience worth savoring, with dishes like the legendary Maryland Benedict—a creative twist on the classic eggs Benedict that replaces English muffins with perfectly seasoned crab cakes. This dish alone has earned rave reviews, with diners praising its richness and the perfect balance of textures and flavors. Not to be missed are the luscious beignets, a quintessential Southern treat dusted in powdered sugar, evoking the sweet nostalgia of New Orleans mornings.
Beverage offerings are thoughtfully curated, including a tempting 1/2 Price Bellinis and Mimosas happy hour that invites you to relax and toast with friends. For those who enjoy pairing food and wine, the wine list is superbly selected to enhance the diverse menu.
Beyond the food, what makes Pujo St Cafe truly stand out is its warm, family-oriented service and welcoming vibe that makes every guest feel like part of the community. As one diner put it, it’s “a calm and relaxing atmosphere” perfect for both casual outings and special occasions alike. The care and attentiveness shown by the staff, even in unexpected moments, create memorable dining experiences that transcend the plate.
In sum, Pujo St Cafe is more than just a restaurant—it is a beloved culinary gem in Lake Charles where coastal flavors, Southern traditions, and modern culinary creativity come together in perfect harmony. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this café promises a rich, flavorful journey paired with genuine hospitality that invites you to linger and savor every moment.
Pujo's offers a very inviting atmosphere with an amazing ambience. Our visit was for a Saturday brunch and found it to be a very family oriented eating establishment. It provides a numerous amount of seating arrangements including an outdoor weather protected area with a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. The indoor area has ample seating even for large groups. They even provide a private special event room. There was very little wait time. With a centrally located bar. Our waitress's name was Sydney. She was so charming, witty and engaging, while meeting our every need. I would highly recommend her as she would certainly be an excellent waitress request. The food is outstanding! I had the 3 egg omelet with onions, green bell peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheese. My husband had the Pujo Banana French Toast and my Son had the Contraband Benedict with Amaratto raspberry cheesecake. Perfect coffee and Orange juice. You will not go away hungry.
The Brussels sprouts special was incredible, along with the gumbo and sticky ribs. Po boy was just okay, but will definitely return to try more delicious food. Very cool building, nice patio, local art for sale on the walls.
Right in the heart of downtown Lake Charles lies Pujo's. A nice café with plenty of dining options. Drinks and appetizers while watching the sun set. Perfect!
I want to write a review not only about this wonderful little restaurant with amazing food, but the people. My experience was a little different because right before Christmas my husband and I had taken my mother to eat because we knew restaurants would be closed for the next couple of days. That night before Christmas Eve I had left my purse with my wallet on the back of my chair at this restaurant. Through the holidays my family and I stayed home and enjoyed home-cooked meals and did not leave to where I would have noticed that I left my purse. In other words, my purse had spent the holidays at the restaurant, and I didn’t even know it. When it was time to take my mother back to her home town the day after Christmas, I noticed I could not find my purse anywhere and remembered the last time I had it was at this restaurant. I immediately called and though it was already in the evening, a nice gentleman named Devin answered and said they had it safely locked up and it had been there safe all Christmas holiday. I am grateful for people with good standing morals that kept my purse safe as we know what a headache it is to replace a drivers license and things in your wallet. I want to separately thank them for that. On top of that the coconut shrimp was amazing along with the eggplant Parmesan and shrimp bisque. All three were amazing, and we will be returning and hope that people not only recognize that even though the food was amazing that staff character can make a difference as well.
I have yet to have a bad meal there. The burgers are juicy and flavorful and crab cakes are the best that I’ve personally ever had. You definitely have to try the Maryland Benedict - it’s eggs Benedict but with crab cakes instead of English muffins. 20/10!
We had the best experience at Pujo St Cafe!! The outside area was pet friendly so we could bring our little man Parish with us!! Food was GREAT and the staff were very friendly ! We had the salmon special and the crab ravioli!!! OUTSTANDING!!!
Everything was delicious. We were a little bummed out that the mimosa flight wasn't available during the week, but we were still able to order one. Gumbo and the shrimp bisque were tasty. Beignets were ok. We were hoping for a variety of beignets but we're happy to be able to order some of the basic ones.
